Over-Under Split-Shot Tutorials
Split-shots, aka over-under shots, bridge the gap between the topside world and the life under the sea, so it's no wonder why they're so popular with wide-angle underwater photographers. Split-shots allow us to see topside subjects like dive boats, islands and resorts while also seeing underwater subjects like the coral reef, fish and divers. They're also a great way to spice up a portfolio made exclusively of underwater images.
Over-under photos are simple to shoot with the proper techniques, but like all photo compositions, they require some practice to master. The tutorials below discuss the gear, settings and shooting tips for capturing great over-under split-shots on compact, mirrorless and DSLR cameras.
