Marine Life Behavior Photo Tutorials

Underwater photography tutorial series for shooting marine life behavior
By Brent Durand

Documenting rare marine life behavior is a dream of most serious underwater photographers. Capturing an exceptional behavior shot takes not only camera skill, but planning, anticipation, knowledge of the subject and enviroment, and of course, lots of luck. These moments often pass very quickly, making the capture of a unique behavior shot something to be proud of.

Unique behavior shots can be captured with macro or wide-angle lenses, encompasing subjects from coral to whales. Some examples include cleaning, mating, fighting, guarding or brooding eggs, feeding and foraging, schooling, sunning, molting and anything else that gives an inside look at the life of that animal.

The tutorials below offer tips and tricks, insight into gear and other suggestions for capturing great behavior shots.
